from tokyo flaneur to all ( again )

Deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the earthquake & tsunami attack on March 11, 2011.

It has been two weeks now, and things are getting back to “normal” at least in Tokyo.

I was home, working when the earthquake hit.
Lights shook, things fell and I could manage to steady few things which, if they had fallen, could have caused a lot of problems.
After the initial hit, I turned on the TV and checked Yahoo!Japan, Facebook, Twitter and Mixi on my PC. Through these social networking sites, I could gather lots of infomation; some were from near the centre of the earthquake and illustrated how devastating the whole thing was.
Though we often tend to focus on the negative side of the “net” here in Japan, I had realised how good the net can be on that particular day.

Until now, we had power-downs and fears of radiation, but, as I said before, things are getting back to normal around me.

So, I’ve decided to re-start this blog. Just re-starting it is ok but I’ve decided to change the design of it. At the same time, I’ll try to do it in both Japanese and English as much as possible.

Wish me luck.

    ….

You’ve just reminded me that I haven’t lost my home, my entire town, or any of my loved ones. My district isn’t a sea of mud, and I don’t have a nuclear power station somewhere upwind spouting heaven knows what into the atmosphere and the sea.

Why don’t I just stop f******g moaning and count my blessings?

Cheers, and may your god go with you, as the Irish comic Dave Allen used to say.

    Joe
